In the future I will search Audre Lorde's archives at the Free University in Berlin, Germany where Lorde spent time between 1984 - 1992. The pictures are of a library at the university.
The LGBTQ Student Organization in my department, the School of Library and Information Studies, at the University of Wisconsin - Madison asked me to present my preliminary research in November 2012.
As an African American former librarian and current Library and
Information Studies professor, I was excited to discover that Audre
Lorde, a lesbian and gay rights, civil rights, and gay rights activist
was a librarian. I wanted to know more about her life as a librarian and
started a research project to understand why she became a librarian,
why she left the field, and what if any impact it had on her later
activism.
