I have arrived in Berlin to search the Audre Lorde archives at the Free University. Dagmar Schultz, the director of the documentary, Audre Lorde -- the Berlin Years from 1984 to 1992, donated the material from the film to the University Archives.

The LGBTQ Student Organization in my department, the School of Library and Information Studies, at the University of Wisconsin - Madison asked me to present my preliminary research in November 2012.

During the fall 2012 I searched Audre Lorde's archives at the Lesbian Herstory Archives in Brooklyn.

As an African American former librarian and current Library and Information Studies professor, I was excited to discover that Audre Lorde, a lesbian and gay rights, civil rights, and gay rights activist was a librarian. I wanted to know more about her life as a librarian and started a research project to understand why she became a librarian, why she left the field, and what if any impact it had on her later activism.
